Caroline,

I envy you as you seem to have had an easier time digesting the story of Job. I, on the other hand, have had a hard time accepting the premise of the story - God getting egged on by an adversary into punishing and humiliating a "blameless and upright" man. (Job 1:1 NOAB) Before one is tempted to declare that this is just the author's opinion of Job, God himself declares, "There is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man who fears God...to destroy him for no reason" (Job 2:3 NOAB). God then continues to berate and bully Job into confessing that he, Job, was in the wrong. God even had the temerity to demand a burnt offering from Job’s friends for stating the obvious – God must have punished Job for his sins.
