Hi - Matt Waters, here. Aside from seminary work, I'm a husband, father, and full-time employee.
The video captures one component of leadership - especially church leadership: being a temporary part of something on an independent trajectory. I notice church leaders are often tasked with trying to assemble parts of an entity that preceded and will survive their tenure. I don't see this phenomenon as inherently good or bad - just one aspect of participating in the life of a church that is two thousand years old. In some ways, as silly as this video was clearly trying to be, the builders had better defined tasks and were better equipped to complete them with some degree of specialization than church leaders are afforded. It was clear by the end of the video that as tasks were completed, workers were free to jettison from the plane. It is my observation that church leadership rarely has such clean, clearly delineated transitions.
