Pastoral care is a field that works in cooperation with many disciplines and can be understood as personal and political because care takes place in various contexts and communities and facilitates “personal agency and efficacy.” Therefore, an approach to pastoral care that extends beyond a personal, religious transformation to one that explores how personal agency leads to political agency is not only helpful but necessary for dismantling oppressive systems and ideologies. This course builds skills for pastoral care across the lifespan of individuals and families and will explore the communal, intercultural, and systemic context of caring practices and the links between justice-making and care.
