The purpose of this course is to educate congregational leaders (clergy and laity) and community professionals (chaplains, social services and health care) regarding the many facets of mental health, aging and spirituality and how these relate to Living and Dying well. Key issues, needs, data, theories, assessment and intervention strategies appropriate to the elderly will be explored. What distinguishes this course from a social work course is its intentional integration of spiritual dimension of aging, including the conjunction between spiritual and human developmental stages and the distinctive spiritual needs and wisdoms that the elderly bring to the fore.
