This course serves to introduce students to the theory and practice of Biblical Studies as a discipline. It introduces students to issues of structural analysis, historical context, translation, and the role of the reader in interpretation. Students practice basic interpretive skills in class and in written assignments. Students will have developed a beginning level of competence in skills of interpretation that will prepare them for subsequent courses in Old Testament and New Testament and for the responsible use of the Bible in ministry contexts.
